Description

School Centered Mental Health is a new comprehensive model for delivery mental health services to children and families in the school as well as in the home. The therapist is a part of an interdisciplinary mental health team that includes LSS family coaches and school staff. The School Center Mental Health (SCMH) therapist performs clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders. The SCMH therapist works closely with children and families to develop individualized treatment plans designed to remove barriers in order to achieve identified goals and build resiliency. The SCMH Therapist works collaboratively with the LSS Family Coach, school personnel and a peer supervision team, with oversight from the Clinical Supervisors, to monitor the course of treatment. This role reports to the Program Supervisor or Manager.

This role will provide services for assigned school(s) or school district(s) and days worked will typically follow the specific school(s) schedule (i.e.: August through June). Specifics of the work, including days off, will be outlined in an annual agreement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Provide mental health services in partnering school(s) or school district(s) including individual and family therapy.
  • Therapy session may be conducted in the in a variety of settings based on family request including: school, home and in the community.
  • Work within the school(s) to provide mental health services to students identified as having barriers to treatment.
  • Collaborate with school staff to assess student and classroom needs through classroom observation and regular interdisciplinary meetings.
  • Support teaching staff with developing behavioral intervention strategies.
  • Complete client assessment, collect data and analyses outcomes for quality programming
  • Develop treatment plans collaboratively with clients and provide agreed upon and necessary therapeutic services in keeping with strength-based, evidence-based best practice standards.
  • Maintain detailed HIPAA compliant electronic clinical records and make recommendations concerning case disposition.
  • Complete agency-required and billing-related phone calls, email, and paperwork work in a professional and timely manner.
  • Adhere to high ethical, professional, and legal standards such as WI State Statutes, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, American Psychological Association, American Counseling Association, American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and National Association of Social Workers.
  • Actively participate in clinical supervision meetings as required to meet best practice and licensure standards.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in training and quality improvement activities as required.
  • Work a flexible weekly schedule that meets the needs of the clients and/or school. May serve as a representative of the agency to interested individuals, professionals, and community groups.
  • May administer specialized programs within a community or the agency.
  • May participate in program, business unit, or agency marketing efforts.
  • May participate in speaking engagements of behalf of the SCMH program, business unit, or agency.
  • Travel to various locations for meetings, trainings, or to perform clinical responsibilities as needed. Travel will vary depending on case load and number of schools assigned.
  • Is responsible for maintaining professional licensure based on licensure requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Masters degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related program is required. Minimum of 3000 clinical hours is required. Practicum experience, through your degree program, related to services LSS provides is required. In addition:
  • Knowledge of state regulations pertaining to clinical practice, including dual relationships and mandatory reporting.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health diagnosis and evidence-based treatments.
  • Ability to make quick and accurate clinical assessments of mental and behavioral health conditions.
  • Ability to design and implement clinical pathways and protocols for treatment of selected mental health and behavioral conditions.
  • Ability to respond to brief patient contacts, including via telephone and teleconferencing.
  • Ability to design effective psycho-education and group curricula and lead effective classes and groups.
  • Ability to train and teach effective behavioral health interventions to others including school staff and parents.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, interfacing with clients, primary care providers, collaterals, and colleagues, as well as administrative and support staff.
  • Ability to exercise balanced judgment in evaluating situations, making decisions, and to handle difficult or confrontational situations in a calm, consistent, and equitable manner.
  • Ability to effectively represent company interests in the community and maintain effective working relationships among colleagues, public, private, and professional groups.
  • Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to utilize an electronic health records system for documentation.
  • High level of comfort in working within a school setting utilizing an interdisciplinary team model.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • The incumbent of this position must have a current state licensure by WI Department of Safety and Professional Services in the Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related program. Some positions may require Substance Abuse Certification or Specialty as well.
  • The incumbent of this position must have a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation to perform the essential duties of the role; a motor vehicle check (MVR) with a satisfactory driving record per the LSS Driver Safety Procedure is required, and ability to meet LSS auto insurance requirements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret written and verbal communication in order to successfully complete all required intervention and goal process documentation by established time frames. Must write progress reports and clearly communicate to external customers the effectiveness of services. Ability to document in neat, legible, accurate, and objective manner and consistently reflect the services provided. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, directors, and top management.

Spanish-speaking therapist/ bilingual English-Spanish therapist is strongly preferred.

TECHNOLOGY

Working knowledge of computers to allow employee to access computer systems and applications to complete timecards, read and respond to email, and complete required on-line training.

Able to use technology that is necessary to perform job responsibilities; use available technology effectively (voicemail, computer, printer, photocopier, fax and telephone, and various types of audio visual equipment).

TRAVEL: Ability to travel on day trips as required up to 50%, depending on program needs.
